MegaMan Fan artists… now it’s your turn.
Udon Entertainment, the company responsible for bringing you a whole slew of comic books and art books based on popular video game franchises, mostly those created by Capcom (Megaman, Resident Evil, Street Fighter, etc) is doing something a little bit different with one of their upcoming publications. Megaman Tribute is just that. It’s an art book that acts as a tribute to the history of Megaman and all the sub-franchises that have arisen since he made his first appearance in 1987.

And they’re opening the call for submission up to everyone! In their own words: “UDON is sending out a call to comic artists, video game artists, freelance illustrators, and fan artists all around the world to show us your artistic tribute to Mega Man! Give us your best artwork featuring the cast of Mega Man®, Mega Man® X, Mega Man® Zero, Mega Man® ZX, and Mega Man® Legends. All styles are welcome – anime, western comic style, cartoon, pixel-based, sculptures – whatever you can come up with as your tribute to the blue bomber! “
I’m pretty excited to see a company like Udon openning this book up to Fans as well as industry professionals. Given that it’s the fans who supported this franchise over the years, it’s great to see that they can now contribute in some way to the culture phenomenon that is Mega-Man. That is to say from an industry experience. Fans contribute to culture in all kinds of ways already, but it’s nice to see a publisher offering them the opportunity to do so in a more above ground context.
Anyone interested in submitting can check out the MegaManTribute site.
