new online doc series on games and gaming @ CBC.ca
The CBC is running an online series of video and texty bits on the culture of video gaming in Canada and abroad called Pushing Buttons: How Video Games are Changing our World. So far it seems like pretty mainstream fare about the games industry and the game consumer. Things such as “how games are made“, a piece about the rise of in-game advertising, there’s a great video time line about the history of arcade games from CBC’s video archives, and even a photo gallery on the Top 10 games made in Canada. ( I was surprised to see that Mass Effect 2 was developed in Edmonton and that B.C’s Quest for Tires was made in Ottawa… nice to see a bit of the history of Canadian game development).
I for one am glad to see a Canadian mainstream media outlet examining the culture of games and the effects it’s having on the world around us. It’s a thing that people rarely consider.
